Trump and Putin

On one hand The President of United States of America, Mr. Donald J Trump is confident to end the war between Ukraine and Russia as he himself claimed to friends with Russian President Vladimir Putin and on the other hand Trump also wants to impose tariffs on the BRICS nations (A group of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) where Russia is a key player. So what exactly are Trump and Putin.

HOW they know each other?

While Trump was the President of US from 2016 to 2020, and again going to be from Jan 2025, and Putin has a mainstream political career since 1999, both got ample time to be working together as presidents and both leaders are considered to have same ideology as both portrait themselves as a hard core nationalist so understanding between the two leaders has developed overtime. While in last term of Trump presidency he made decisions, like CAATSA, that made Russians unhappy but was also in favor of making the relation with Russia warmer and for that he does not make any expansion in NATO near Russian territory. Putin enjoyed the time when Trump was the president infact a federal grand jury of Columbia indict 12 Russian hackers for influencing US elections 2016 and same accusations were made in 2020 elections too, trying to made it in the favor of Republicans (Trump’s party) as Democrats (Biden’s party) openly criticised Putin over many issues like human rights. So the relationship between them is solely based on situations.

WHAT made this “COMPLICATED”?

As both the leaders wants to be portrayed as nationalist both put their nation first,

  • For that Putin played his cards on BRICS group while Trump played his on AMERICA first policy.

  • Trump said in his election champion he put huge tariffs on nations who wants de-dollarization (situation where trade between countries is done in local or one common currency instead of dollar).

  • With no surprise BRICS nations, especially Russia and China, are leading this front.

AND THAT’S WHERE IT’S GOT COMPLICATED.

HOW are they going to take this forward?

(US Russia and China and the love triangle)

As both are powerful and strong leaders the next few years are going to be interesting where Putin wants to deepen its relation with China and make De-dollarisation a real thing and Trump wants to sanction China because of strategic, economic and geopolitical factors and end the idea of De-dollarisation so dollar remains the reserved currency. So yeah if both come on a same page with China and sort their other issues, we see a happy and co-operative world leaders with some collide as both want world domination.
